Accessibility

What we have done, and what has not been tested yet.

We aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA. That is an aim and not an established outcome: no independent audit has taken place yet.

What is built in

  • A skip link that takes you to the content with one keystroke
  • A clearly visible focus ring for keyboard use, on every operable element
  • One H1 per page, with heading levels that follow the structure rather than the styling
  • Motion that stops as soon as your system is set to reduced motion
  • The language of each page is set in the HTML, so a screen reader picks the right pronunciation
  • No content behind a tab, accordion or hover: everything simply sits in the page

What is still open

A full keyboard and screen reader audit has not been carried out. Until it has, we make no claim that the site meets AA.

The contrast of every colour combination has not been checked one by one either. Where we are unsure, we take the darker option.

Run into something

If you hit a problem, send us a message with the page and what went wrong. That is the fastest way for us to find and fix it.

If we cannot resolve it together, you can turn to the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights.
